KANSAS CITY – It was an ugly day at the ballpark Monday for the Seattle Mariners. The Kansas City Royals dominated, shutting out the Mariners, 10-0.
Seattle mustered just two hits in the contest, singles from Daniel Vogelbach and Dee Gordon.
Marco Gonzales did not have his best stuff on the mound for Seattle going just 2 and a 1/3 innings, giving up 4 earned runs off 8 hits.
Starting pitcher Jakob Junis was lights out for the Royals, going 7 innings, giving up just 1 hit with 3 strikeouts.
The loss drops the Mariners back to 500 on the season at 4-4. Seattle next face the Royals Tuesday in game two of the three game series. Felix Hernandez is set to get the nod for the Mariners while Eric Skoglund pitches for Kansas City.
