Another longtime figure in the Seattle Mariners’ organization is heading to Cleveland to join Guardians manager Stephen Vogt’s coaching staff.

Tony Arnerich was announced as Cleveland’s bench coach on Thursday after spending the past nine seasons in Seattle’s organization, including the past two seasons as the Mariners’ bullpen coach and catching instructor.

Mariners’ Cal Raleigh finishes 2nd in razor-tight AL MVP voting

This comes after the Guardians announced former Mariners assistant general manager Andy McKay as Cleveland’s new field coordinator on Wednesday. McKay spent the past decade working a variety of roles in Seattle’s organization.

Arnerich and McKay both have ties to Vogt, who was the Mariners’ bullpen coach in 2023. Vogt then took over as the skipper in Cleveland, where he has been named American League Manager of the Year each of the past two seasons.

Arnerich, 45, joined the Mariners’ organization in 2017. He spent his first three seasons as the organization’s assistant hitting coordinator/catching coordinator and then two seasons as the organization’s minor league field and catching coordinator.

Arnerich then joined Seattle’s big league staff in 2022, spending two seasons as one of the club’s major league hitting coaches before taking over the bullpen coach and catching instructor roles.
