Astros right-hander Hunter Brown finished third in Cy Young voting earlier this week. Brown finished behind Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal, who captured his second straight Cy Young Award, and Boston lefty Garrett Crochet. Brown posted a 2.43 ERA and a 3.14 FIP in 31 starts for the Astros this season.
Brown was also named to the All-MLB second team. He was joined by Phillies’ starters Zack Wheeler and Cristopher Sanchez along with Milwaukee’s Freddy Peralta and Seattle’s Bryan Woo.
The Astros also announced this week that they have hired Anthony Iapoce to serve as an assistant hitting coach. Iapoce was in the Tigers organization for the last three seasons and served as first base coach for the last two.
Major League Baseball wrapped up awards week Thursday night with the announcement of this year’s winners of the MVP Awards. Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge narrowly edged out Seattle catcher Cal Raleigh to win his third career MVP award. In the NL, Shohei Ohtani was a unanimous selection for the second straight year.
