Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber finished second in the National League Most Valuable Player award race, his first top-five finish in the NL MVP voting race.

Phillies pitcher Cristopher Sanchez finished 15th and was the runner-up for the National League Cy Young award.

While Schwarber didn’t capture the award, he had his finest season of his big league career.

Schwarber’s Historic Season by the Numbers

Schwarber hit .240 with an NL-leading 56 home runs, 23 off left-handed pitching, the most ever by a left-handed hitter, and 132 RBI.

Schwarber enters his free agent offseason with those monster numbers and now a runner-up in the MVP race to make his case to break the bank.  While some reports indicate all parties would like a reunion, the cost and length of the contract will be factors in bringing him back to Philadelphia.

Schwarber’s Free Agency Outlook and Market Value

Former MLB GM Jom Bowden indicated that Schwarber could command a contract of 5 years, $160 million, indicating that the Phillies will make every effort to re-sign him, while also offering ‘It will be fascinating to see what offers Schwarber gets on the open market.’

While Schwarber did not win the MVP, he was recently named the NL’s Most Outstanding Player for his spectacular season.
