1. Lt. Gov. Patrick directs Texas Rangers to investigate TSU for financial impropriety

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick revealed on Monday that the state auditor has uncovered “information suggesting the misuse of state funds” at Texas Southern University in Houston. The audit has been happening for a few months and has caused Patrick to direct the Texas Rangers to further investigate the university to see if there are any violations of state law.

2. Former Texas Comptroller’s Office employee says he was fired for promoting ‘No Kings’ rally

In a now viral post, Austin food blogger Caleb Newton said the Texas Comptroller’s Office fired him from his job as a social media manager for posting a TikTok that got 33,000 views encouraging people to attend October’s “No Kings” protest.

3. Even as the shutdown ends, WIC clinics expect to see more traffic

The government shutdown has ended, but the lag time for Texans who depend on federal nutrition assistance to get that help is expected to be ongoing. Inside one of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) clinics, officials said they expect the surge to continue.

4. Flight delays due to the government shutdown could continue into the holiday season, experts say

The longest government shutdown in U.S. history is now over, but travel delays and canceled flights continue to plague the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. Experts say it could take weeks before traveling gets back to normal.
