GAINESVILLE 9, PATRIOT 6: The second-seeded Cardinals scored seven runs between the third and fourth innings to rally from a 5-2 deficit and win Tuesday’s Cedar Run District Tournament semifinal.

Gavin Genovese led Gainesville (17-4) with a fifth-inning grand slam for his lone hit of the night.

Patriot (14-7) still advances to regionals as the district’s No. 3 seed.

HYLTON 1, POTOMAC 0: Jayden Kopecky and Sage Miller combined on a three-hit shutout in the Bulldogs’ Cardinal District Tournament first-round win Tuesday.

Brian Bannister’s double in the top of the third provided the game’s only run. Fifth-seeded Hylton (9-11) advances to Friday’s semifinal against top-seeded Colgan.

Kopecky started the game and struck out nine over six innings, while allowing two hits for the win.

BATTLEFIELD 2, FREEDOM-SOUTH RIDING 1: Josh Weppner and Jack Glennon combined on a six-hitter and six strikeouts as the top-seeded Bobcats (20-2) won their Cedar Run District Tournament semifinal. Weppner was the winning pitcher.

Battlefield broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fourth when Teagan Leach scored on Garrett Camp’s sacrifice fly.

BRENTSVILEL 6, FAUQUIER 0: Aaron Caughlin struck out seven over six innings and allowed two hits for the win.

JJ Hand and Levi Fear recorded two RBI each for Brentsville (13-3, 14-7). Hand hit a home run.

GAINESVILLE 6, OSBOURN PARK 5: The host Cardinals led 6-0 after the first innings and then held off to beat the defending Class 6 state champions in a tiebreaker game Tuesday needed to determine the fourth seed in the Cedar Run District Tournament.

Gainesville (11-9) will now play top-seeded Battlefield Wednesday in the district tournament semifinals. Osbourn Park finishes its season with a 12-9 record.

Ireland Thomas had two RBI for Gainesville.

FOREST PARK 25, POTOMAC 1: Jordynn Carter recorded five hits and four RBI as the fourth-seeded Bruins (14-8) won their Cardinal District Tournament first-round game.

Carter hit a two-run homer in the third.
