ROCHESTER 9, SYRACUSE 4 (BOX)

When Brandon Sproat was promoted to Syracuse, we all expected some regression. Over the course of his time with Brooklyn and Binghamton last season, he posted a cumulative 2.05 ERA in 87.2 IP and it was unlikely that he would be able to continue putting up those kinds of numbers against better players in a league where the run environment favors hitters. Sure enough, Sproat struggled, but it was only a momentary blip we told ourselves. It was late in the season, he was gassed, and as mentioned, there was some regression due. Well, now we’re about 70.0 IP into the Brandon-Sproat-in-Triple-A program, and the results are not good. For the third time this season, and in his second-consecutive start, Sproat allowed six earned runs. No bueno. Rico Garcia had a part in the nine run inning Rochester had, but Sproat was directly responsible for 5 of those runs while on the mound himself. Syracuse plated a few runs to avoid the blowout shutout, but just not a good game.

BINGHAMTON 4, RICHMOND 1 (BOX)

The Flying Squirrels scored a run in the top of the first, Binghatmon scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, and going into the ninth inning, the game stayed tied. Carlos Guzman threw a 1-2-3 top of the inning, setting things up for the offense. They wasted no time, with William Lugo doubling and Kevin Parada singling. D’Andre Smith struck out to bring Alex Ramirez to the plate. The outfielder took a questionable pitch down and in for strike one, but Trent Harris’ second offering caught a little too much of the plate and Ramirez launched his first home run over the left-center wall to walk off for Binghamton.

JERSY SHORE 6, BROOKLYN 4 (BOX)

This game was a back-and-forth affair all evening. The lead changed hands five different times, but in the fifth, it changed hands for good. In the bottom of the inning, Raimon Gomez loaded up the bases on a single and two walks and then gave up a grand slam to Jersey Shore shortstop Bryan Rincon. The Cyclones had life all evening, but in the eighth and ninth they went quietly into the night.

Another one with a decisive lead change in the seventh. Coming into the inning, St. Lucie had a 3-0 lead over the Hammerheads but in the top of the frame Luis Alvarez and Hunter Hodges combined to give up six runs. St. Lucie scored two more runs and came within inches of tying things up- literally, Willy Fanas was caught stealing home on a double steal- but weren’t able to get over the hump.
