The Dodgers desperately needed somebody in the rotation to step up on Tuesday, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto showed why he has become a bona fide ace within the Dodgers rotation.
Yamamoto tossed seven shutout innings while tossing a career high 110 pitches and racking up nine strikeouts against the Arizona Diamondbacks, ultimately taking a no-decision after Tanner Scott’s implosion in the ninth inning.
Through his first six innings, Yamamoto did not allow a hit, as a walk to Ketel Marte was the only base runner Arizona could muster. He became the first Dodgers pitcher to enter the seventh inning with a no-hitter intact since Ryan Pepiot in 2023. His efforts did not affect the final outcome of Tuesday’s win, but he left with a now 1.86 ERA and 0.91 on the season through 10 starts.
Yamamoto caught up with Kirsten Watson of SportsNet LA after Tuesday’s walk-off win about the team’s ability to come back late and his dominance on the mound.

The Dodgers are starting to finally bring back reinforcements from the injured list (excluding the bullpen), as Clayton Kershaw, Tommy Edman and Teoscar Hernández were all activated over three straight days.
While Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell have both begun throwing, Shohei Ohtani continues to amp up his throwing program, as he recently threw a 50-pitch bullpen on Saturday prior to the Dodgers’ loss against his former team. The answer to when Ohtani will eventually return to the mound remains unsolved, per Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times.
“I really wish I had an answer [on when it will be],” Roberts said. “I’m just waiting for the green light from people that are sort of managing the Shohei rehab, day to day.”
Adding to the growing worries of the Dodgers’ rotation is Dustin May pitching on shorter rest than usual, as he will start on Wednesday against Arizona on four days rest.
Dave Roberts expressed the necessity to have May start the series finale while expressing confidence in his ability to perform well on short rest, per Doug Padilla of the Orange County Register.
“I think it’s more the need of the rotation,” Roberts said. “I think he’s physically able to handle it. Our rotation certainly needs it. To not have the ability really to drop somebody in, I think the progression is kind of fitting and the timing is good for this.”
