Brewers catcher William Contreras gives his take on the Brewers crazy double-play from Game 1 of the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers on October 13, 2025, at American Family Field in Milwaukee.
Loyalty. Faith. Home. And a wild moment from the 2025 Major League Baseball playoffs.
The collection of arm tattoos belonging to Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras now includes a rendering of a memorable home run from Game 2 of Milwaukee’s National League Division Series against the Chicago Cubs in October.
Contreras picked up an imaginary phone and hung it up after drilling a home run against Shota Imanaga that broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the third, part of a game the Brewers went on to win, 7-3.
The Brewers showed off the new artwork on their social-media accounts, with the visual of Contreras in a jersey bearing “24” picking up the imaginary phone and then another image of him hanging up the phone.
His tattoo ensemble includes a visual of a ram, a baseball field, the words “Loyalty” and “Faith” as well as an outline of his native Venezuela and another picture of Contreras in his jersey with a crown over his head.
Contreras was asked who was on the other end of the line after the game Oct. 6.
“Brewer fans. The Brewer fans,” he said. “I’m going to do everything for the Brewer fans. I’m going to do everything for my teammates. I want to be the one of best (at) the plate … I want to bring the energy, too, for the team.
“Now, it’s showtime.”
The Brewers held on to win the series, three games to two, marking the Brewers’ first playoff series win since 2018. Contreras homered again in the first inning of Game 5 off opener Drew Pomeranz, part of a 3-1 victory in the clincher.
It wasn’t clear at the time if there was any broader reference to the gesture. Cubs manager (and former Brewers manager) Craig Counsell became the subject of a well-circulated meme in late July when he rushed to pick up a bullpen phone following a grand slam by Andrew Vaughn.
