On Wednesday morning, Marshall County senior Thomas Bagby put pen to paper on his college commitment, officially signing on to play baseball at Western Kentucky University.

“It’s a great day, and I was really excited to sign,” Bagby said. “It was great to have all of my friends, family, and my coaches here today. They all did so much to help get me here.”

In his three years on the varsity roster, Bagby has established himself as a crucial member of the Marshals lineup as both a batter and a left-handed pitcher. In his junior year, Bagby hit for a .315 average, while maintaining a 2.10 ERA across 46.2 innings, helping the Marshals along to a district championship. Now heading into his final year in the program, Bagby and the Marshals have their sights set even higher, and hope to contend for a First Region title.

“I’ve had a ton of fun here, there’s been so many great memories, but we’re not done yet, we’ve still got a region to win,” Bagby concluded, looking towards his senior season. “I want to be dominant as a senior, and this team wants to win, so I’m looking forward to the season.”

Following his senior season this spring, Bagby will join up with a WKU program that has seen plenty of success in recent years. This past season, the Hilltoppers finished with an impressive 46-14 record, collecting a Conference USA championship and a spot in the NCAA Oxford Regional alongside Murray State, Ole Miss, and Georgia Tech.

“They’ve been a great program for the last few years, great coaches and great facilities, I just feel like it’s the right fit for me,” Bagby concluded, on his decision to become a Hilltopper. “Hopefully I can step in right away and show what I can do as a freshman.”
