Randy Jones, who played as the ace of the San Diego Padres, has passed away. He was 75.
The Padres announced Jones’ obituary on their official social media on the 20th (Korea Standard Time).
Jones, a left-handed thrower, was drafted by the Padres in the fifth round in the 1972 draft and made his major league debut with the same team in 1973.

He pitched in 305 games for the San Diego (1973-80) New York Mets (1981-82), with a 100-123 record with a 3.42 ERA over 10 years.
In particular, 1975 and ’76 were in their prime. In those two years, he was selected as an All-Star with 42 wins, 26 losses and a 2.50 ERA in 77 games.
Among them, in 1976, he pitched 3151/3 innings in 40 games, recording 22 wins and 14 losses with a 2.74 ERA, and was selected as the National League Cy Young Award.

The award made him the first winner of the Cy Young Award in Padres history.
The Padres said the deceased was “the cornerstone of our club” and expressed their condolences, saying, “He remains a giant in our lives and will be missed by him as a Cy Young Award winner, a member of the club’s Hall of Fame, and a great public relations ambassador in the community.”
