The Texas Rangers are in the midst of a critical offseason and are reportedly considering trading away multiple key pieces in an attempt to build a younger roster.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the Rangers missed the postseason for a second consecutive season and have already chosen to move on from Manager Bruce Bochy, indicating that the franchise could look to go in another direction moving forward.
Now, the team could also be seeking to move on from multiple former All-Stars during the offseason.
MLB Insider Jeff Passan provided an update about some of the Rangers’ upcoming decisions during the offseason, stating that the franchise is “trying to deal outfielder Adolis García and catcher Jonah Heim before Friday’s tender deadline.”
Passan later specifies that García and Heim would both be “non-tender candidates” if the team is unable to complete a trade, meaning both players would be expected to enter free agency.
The Rangers’ choosing not to tender either player indicates that the franchise does not believe the players are worth their projected arbitration salaries, with García expected to make an arbitration salary of $12.75 million and Heim expected to have a salary of $6 million.
García is coming off a season in which he finished with 19 home runs and 75 RBIs while batting .227 and collecting a slugging percentage of .394.
Meanwhile, Heim finished the 2025 regular season with 11 home runs, 43 RBIs, and 32 walks while batting .213.
Moving forward, the Rangers will likely move on from both players as the team looks to fill various holes on the roster, with the team’s pitching standing out as the biggest need in free agency.
The Rangers were arguably the best pitching team in the MLB during the 2025 regular season, finishing the year with a league-low earned runs average of just 3.47.
Additionally, the Rangers finished with the ninth-lowest number of home runs surrendered at just 172 and the sixth-fewest walks with only 463.
However, the Rangers received 36.7% of innings pitched during the 2025 regular season from players who are currently free agents, meaning they must restock a large portion of the pitching staff for next year, according to Sports Illustrated.
Potential pitching losses in free agency include the following players: Shawn Armstrong, Patrick Corbin, Merrill Kelly, Tyler Mahle, and Chris Martin.
This need to add more pitching will likely play a major role in the team’s decision to move on from García and Heim in some way, as the team will have to set aside money to acquire more pitchers.
