Garrett Stubbs has agreed to a split contract with the Phillies, according to The Athletic’s Matt Gelb. The catcher will make $925,000 in the majors and $575,000 in the minors.
Stubbs, 32, was arbitration eligible for the second time in his career.
The deal doesn’t necessarily mean Stubbs will start the season on the Phillies big league roster. He is out of minor league options. So is Rafael Marchan. If the Phillies re-sign J.T. Realmuto, it’s unlikely both begin the season on the major league roster. Both players would have to clear waivers in order to be sent to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Stubbs spent most of last season in Triple-A before being called up to the Phillies when rosters expanded from 26 to 28 in September. He was used mostly as a pinch runner and defensive substitute. His only major league plate appearance in 2025 came on the final day of the regular season.
In 309 plate appearances with Lehigh Valley, Stubbs slashed .265/.352/.402 with eight home runs and 50 RBIs.
The Phillies have until 5 p.m. ET today to tender contracts to the remaining arbitration-eligible players. Marchan, Jesús Luzardo, Jhoan Duran, Alec Bohm, Brandon Marsh, Bryson Stott, Edmundo Sosa and Tanner Banks are all arbitration eligible. All are expected to be tendered contracts for the 2026 season.
