The Texas Rangers have non-tendered outfielder Adolis Garcia, who will become a free agent, ESPN’s Jesse Rogers reported on Friday.
Garcia has been a starting outfielder for the Rangers each of the past five seasons and notably helped Texas win its first-ever World Series in 2023.
GarcÃa will forever be a legend for his efforts in Texas’ seven-game win over Houston in the 2023 ALCS, where he hit five home runs with 15 RBI, posting a .357 batting average and 1.293 OPS. He had eight home runs in the MLB playoffs overall.
That postseason followed the best regular season of GarcÃa’s career. He posted career-bests with an .836 OPS, 39 home runs and 107 RBI.
However, GarcÃa encountered some struggles in 2024 and 2025. He hit a career-low .224 in 2024 and then posted a career-low .665 OPS in 2025. Per Baseball-Reference, his OPS+ slid from 127 in 2023 to 98 in 2024 and 93 in 2025.
There has to be some concern about GarcÃa’s regression as he enters his age-33 season. That said, he’s still shown some pop and production as evidenced by his 19 homers and 75 RBI in 135 games last year.
GarcÃa should see some interest, and Jim Bowden of The Athletic provided some potential landing spots.
All four of those teams make sense for different reasons.
The Philadelphia Phillies are in danger of losing their top power hitter, free agent Kyle Schwarber, and may need to add some pop should he sign elsewhere.
The Pittsburgh Pirates desperately need more hitting help after smacking just 117 home runs (last in the majors by 31) and posting a .655 OPS (also last).
The Cleveland Guardians just won the AL Central despite being second-last in OPS (.670). GarcÃa, in his 2025 form, would actually be one of the better hitters on the team (only three regulars had a 96 OPS+ or better).
The Los Angeles Angels just lost a big bat when they traded Taylor Ward (36 home runs, .792 OPS) to the Baltimore Orioles for starting pitcher Grayson Rodriguez. GarcÃa can help the Angels reclaim some lost power.
Ultimately, GarcÃa should have suitors soon enough after Texas made this decision. He’ll forever be a Ranger legend for his 2023 success, but another chapter will now open for GarcÃa as he looks for a new MLB home.
