One of the top rising storylines over the MLB offseason has started to surround the Texas Rangers and their need to reduce payroll to restructure the team for the future. While Corey Seager has been a star player for the Rangers since he signed with them, over the next six years, Seager is owed nearly $190 million.
Moving on from Corey Seager in a trade makes the most sense for the Rangers’ future, as they would clear his contract off the books, while also getting assets back in return to build around for the future.
With the increasing talk of Corey Seager becoming available, the team that should be reaching out to the Rangers in search for a trade is the Boston Red Sox.

Texas Rangers Trade Corey Seager to the Boston Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox looked strong throughout 2025, leading to them having an 89-73 record, and making the MLB Playoffs. Ultimately, though, they fell short as they were eliminated by the New York Yankees in the MLB Wild Card Round Series, leading to them needing to figure out what went wrong and ho to fix it going forward in 2026 to not have this be the case again.
For Boston, a main thing they will need to plan around is the potential departure of Alex Bregman. With Bregman being a free agent, there is the potential that he ends up signing elsewhere and leaves a bigger void in the lineup for the Red Sox. In addition to needing another batter in the lineup to provide an impact, the Red Sox also have an issue with the talent at second base that they need to fix.
To add both a powerful batter, as well as get a true star player at second base, the Red Sox can look to trade for Corey Seager.
Corey Seager has primarily played shortstop over his career, but the Red Sox could slide him over to the second base spot to see how he slots in there. The hope would be that his accurate throwing, and good instincts that made him a Gold Glove finalist, would help in leading to him also being efficient at second base.
One thing is for sure, though, Corey Seager is an impactful batter and would provide the boost the Red Sox desperately need. Seager is just coming off a season in which he had a .271/.373/.487 slash line with 21 home runs, and 50 RBIs. With his consistency as a batter, plus being a five-time All-Star, he is the spark that the Red Sox need to trade for to add to their lineup and make it known they are competing for it all in 2026.
