The 2025 season was a very tough one for veteran right-hander Walker Buehler. Buehler split time between the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies during the year, and it’s a season that he would likely prefer to put behind him.
Buehler made 23 appearances for the Red Sox following his signing of a one-year deal with them in the offseason. Things didn’t go as planned, as it saw Buehler put up an ERA of 5.45 over 112.1 innings of work.
Boston eventually released him, and he joined the Phillies for the stretch run of the year. Things went a little more smoothly with Philadelphia, and Buehler’s numbers were solid in a small sample size.
In 13.2 innings with the Phillies, he posted an ERA of 0.66, but he didn’t get a chance to pitch for the team in the playoffs. Now, he will be back in free agency, but unlike last season, he doesn’t have his World Series heroics to back him up.
Buehler has established himself as one of the better postseason pitchers while with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but he wanted something new last winter. This led him to join the Red Sox, and it was a disaster of a year.
But entering this offseason, there remains some interest in Buehler around the league, with teams hoping that he can turn things back around. However, which teams could look to bring him in are unknown, and Biehler will likely have to wait for the free agent market to shake out a little before he can sign.
This is just a prediction, NOT a report!

Walker Buehler Lands With Arizona Diamondbacks
As Buehler looks around the league for his next stop, the veteran is likely to be signing another prove-it type of contract. One team that could fit the mold for him is the Arizona Diamondbacks, who are extremely familiar with Biuehler from his time with the Dodgers.
Arizona’s starting rotation next season has a lot of questions around it, and Buehler could slot in as a backend starter for this team. The Diamondbacks have shown good progress with pitchers over the years, and Buehler could look to reestablish his value around the league with them.
If anything, he would give the Diamondbacks more depth across the pitching staff, which is something that all teams need throughout the long season. Buehler is as competitive a player as they come, and he could be very motivated to show that his career isn’t done with yet.
Additionally, being able to play against the Dodgers multiple times a year could be a factor in this potential move as well. Buehler doesn’t have any beef with Los Angeles, but it’s always fun for players to be able to perform against their own teams.
Buehler could be a perfect low-risk, possibly high-reward type of move for the Diamondbacks this coming season, especially with them looking to get back to the postseason. Arizona should be calling his representatives to see what it may take to bring the former All-Star to the desert.
