If the Philadelphia Phillies are looking to upgrade their lineup, one name that could interest them is Arizona All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte.
The switch-hitting Silver Slugger had another productive season, slashing .283/.376/.517 with 28 home runs and 72 RBI in 126 games for the D-Backs. He has twice finished in the Top 5 of National League MVP voting, finishing third in 2024 and fourth in the voting in 2019.
He could hit in many spots in the Phillies lineup, including leadoff, second and third.
Morosi: Phillies Are Actively Checking In On Marte
According to Jon Morosi of the MLB Network, the Phillies have interest if Arizona is looking to trade him.
Per Morosi, the Phillies were one of the teams that have checked in on Marte, and they are also not on his limited no-trade list, meaning the Phillies could trade for him without Marte’s permission.
Moving Bryson Stott or Alec Bohm?
If the Phillies were in fact in on Marte, the big questions would be what it would take to acquire him and what position he would play. The team could move current second baseman Bryson Stott in a deal, which would open up second base for Marte.
Another possibility is moving Marte to the outfield, where he has played 174 games in his MLB career in the outfield, all in center field. Marte has played just three games at third base, but moving the 32-year-old over there could be an option if the Phillies moved Alec Bohm in a trade to acquire him.
Breaking Down Marte’s Long-Term Contract Details
Marte is signed through the 2030 season with a player option for 2031 when he will be 37 years old.
One area the D-Backs could be interested in is young pitching, and the Phillies have one that could be high on their wish list – Andrew Painter. Would Phillies fans be interested in making a move involving Painter for Marte?
