Warren Schaeffer took over as interim manager on May 11 after Bud Black was relieved of his duties.

DENVER — The Colorado Rockies named Warren Schaeffer the club’s full-time manager on Monday after he spent more than six months in the interim role.

Schaeffer, 40, was named interim manager on May 11 after Bud Black was relieved of his duties.

Schaeffer has been part of the Rockies organization for more than a decade in coaching and player development roles, including as Colorado’s third-base and infield coach beginning in 2023.

“We’re confident Warren is the right person to lead our club moving forward,” Rockies president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta said in a statement. “He has established strong relationships with our players, understands the culture of this franchise and embodies the energy and work ethic we want on and off the field.”

Schaeffer said he was grateful for the opportunity to continue in the role.

“My focus remains on continuing to build a strong, unified culture based on accountability, hard work and trust,” he said. “We have a group of guys who care deeply about competing the right way, and my goal is to keep strengthening those relationships while leading a team that our fans can embrace and be proud of.”

A native of Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, Schaeffer played in Colorado’s minor league system from 2007–12 after the Rockies selected him in the 38th round of the 2007 draft out of Virginia Tech. He began managing in the Rockies organization in 2015 with the Single-A Asheville Tourists, later leading Double-A Hartford Yard Goats in 2018–19 and Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes in 2021–22 before joining the major league coaching staff.

Schaeffer becomes the eighth full-time manager in franchise history.

The Rockies, who finished their third-consecutive season with more than 100 losses, went 36-86 during Schaeffer’s interim run.
