PELHAM – Pelham officials and residents gathered on Friday, Nov. 14 to celebrate the beginning of renovations to Pelham City Park, with ground officially being broken on a project that city leaders say will positively impact athletes, families and visitors for years to come.

The project, part of a larger $3.4 million investment into the park’s baseball and softball complex, will bring several long-awaited improvements, including six new covered batting cages, a new concession stand and a new restroom facility. Crews officially began work on the project on Monday, Nov. 10 with the demolition of the former restroom and concession building at the park.

The additions aim to meet the needs of the city’s growing Parks and Rec department, while making the complex more accessible and functional for events.

“Pelham City Park is one of our most active community spaces, and these upgrades reflect our continued investment in providing top-quality facilities for residents and visitors,” said Brian Cooper, Pelham Parks and Recreation director. “We’re excited to bring these improvements to life and to continue enhancing the recreational experience here in Pelham.”

The project is estimated to be completed 180 days after the beginning of construction, and will feature a redesigned central plaza with natural wood accents, shaded seating areas and a modern combined concession stand and restroom building. City leaders say the new plaza will serve as a warm, welcoming hub at the heart of the facility.

The six new covered batting cages will be placed strategically throughout the complex, with four near the park’s entrance and two between Fields 2 and 3. The city will also retain the existing cages, giving teams expanded space to warm up and practice.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Cooper expressed his gratitude to elected officials and city staff for spearheading the advancement of the project.
