The Texas Rangers have been busy during the 2025-2026 off-season. They have non-tendered Adolis Garcia, Jonah Heim and Josh Sborz and then traded Marcus Semien to the New York Mets, and of course Bruce Bochy is gone.
Marcus Semien was the arguably the captain of that World Series team, followed by Corey Seager and Adolis Garcia.
The Reaction
Rangers fans did not react well to the non-tenders and trades, and Chris Young is telling them all there is a plan in place.
All most fans see is some of the 2023 World Series heros getting pushed aside or traded away, and now there is a report that Corey Seager has asked for a trade from the team according to Jeff Passan.
The Rangers are finished with the team that won it all in 2023, as is evident by this off-season. 4 key pieces, gone.
Marcus Semien and Corey Seager were brought in to win it all, and they accomplished it. But the past two season have been a disappointment.
The Plan?
CY and the front office are making tough choices that they believe will improve the team, or so they say. It is also no secret that they want to cut payroll.
“Marcus came here after a 100-loss season, chose to come here and be part of our organization in hopes of helping us win our first World Series championship,” said president of baseball operations Chris Young according to texasrangers.com. “We are, as an organization, forever grateful to Marcus for all that he accomplished here in his time. Marcus is a championship-caliber player and certainly is going to go do great things for the New York Mets…”
There is a chance Garcia and Heim could resign with the Rangers if they want to take less money, but it is a long shot in my opinion.
Will Seager Stay or Go?
Let’s address the Seager rumor. I have only seen it one place, and all Rangers fans remember when Michael Young asked for a trade in 2011 after the Rangers signed Adrian Beltre.
Young remained and was apart of the Rangers second straight World Series appearance that year.
My personal opinion is that Seager is not going anywhere and is just upset about the Semien trade, but he is a professional and the Ranger are saying they are trying to build a contending team.
Fans will have to wait and see what comes next after all the moves so far.
The 2023 team is all but gone at this point. If the Rangers wind up a winning team in 2026 no one will remember how disappointed they were in November of 2025.
