IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa volleyball player Claire Ammeraal won’t have to move far post-graduation after being selected by the Omaha Supernovas in the 2025 Major League Volleyball Draft on Monday.
Ammeraal, a senior setter from Madison, Wisconsin, is the first Hawkeye to be drafted to the MLV.
The Supernovas drafted her with the 22nd overall pick, along with Creighton’s Kiara Reinhardt (No. 8), Pittsburgh’s Brooke Mosher (No. 15) and Nebraska’s Allie Sczech (No. 29).
During her four-year career, Ammeraal has accumulated 3,461 assists and 539 kills. She spent her freshman and sophomore seasons at Central Michigan University before transferring to Iowa in 2024.
With the Hawkeyes, she has amassed 1,484 assists, 248 kills, 378 digs and 94 blocks and has a .292 hitting percentage. This year, she is ranked second in the Big Ten in assists (1,106) and has the most kills of any setter (164).
“Our team is so happy for Claire,” head coach Jim Barnes said in an Iowa Athletics release. “I’ve said many times that she is the most talented setter in the country. She will make Omaha better and will quickly be a fan favorite.”
Last season, the Supernovas claimed the regular season title with a 21-7 record and lost in the Professional Volleyball Federation semi-finals.
