It seems like the Toronto Blue Jays are adding some depth to the organization with upside.

On Tuesday, Ari Alexander of WHDH-TV in Boston reported that the Blue Jays were signing veteran infielder Rodolfo Castro to a minor league deal with a spring training invite.

“Source: The Blue Jays are signing (infielder) Rodolfo Castro to a minor league deal with a spring training invite,” Alexander wrote on X. “Castro spent 2025 in Triple-A with the Phillies. He has 194 games of MLB experience between the Pirates and Phillies from 2021-23.”

As of Tuesday morning, the move wasn’t yet reflected on Castro’s official MLB page.

Castro elected free agency from the Philadelphia Phillies on Nov. 6 after spending parts of three seasons in the organization. Castro began his professional baseball career with the Pittsburgh Pirates back in 2016 and eventually made his big league debut in 2021. Eventually, he was traded to the Phillies during the 2023 season.

Overall, Castro has appeared in 194 big league games with the Phillies and the Pirates and has slashed .219/.292/.380 with 22 home runs, 59 RBIs, and 17 doubles.

What makes him stand out as a valuable depth piece to have in an organization is his versatility in the infield. He has big league experience at second base, shortstop, and third base. In the minors, Castro also got a bit of playing time at all three outfield positions in the Phillies’ farm system in 2025.
