(KNSI) – The Cold Spring City Council will once again discuss the final schematic design for the remodel of the government center at Wednesday’s meeting.
It had held open a public hearing on the matter earlier this month, as members wanted to see what the cost would be for a two-stall garage to be added on that would serve as a controlled entrance for inmates. Initially, on November 12th, there were only a pair of options to consider. Either go with the building as is or choose to construct a six-stall garage and a separate back parking lot for the police department.
Council wanted a third choice that was in the middle. It is estimated to cost an additional $184,108. As of right now, the total price tag is $4,273,817.
The council is also expected to approve a measure that will replace the bleacher seating along the first baseline at the baseball stadium. Administrator Kris Dockendorf says the project reduces the amount of upkeep needed at the facility. “We’ve had the wooden bleachers for so long, and they’ve always needed maintenance every year, as you can expect with wood. So, they’re finally going to replace those with maintenance-free material.”
The upgrade is needed before the town ball championships come to the area. “This is one of those they’ve been planning for a couple of years because we’re going to be hosting the state baseball tournament – I think it’s in 2027, so they wanted to get this done before that.”
The project calls for a switch to Azek Max slate gray seating, which looks like lumber but is made with composite materials. The low bid is just under $73,000. If the council approves on Wednesday, the city would pick up half, with the area baseball organization responsible for the rest.
