I’m thankful for David Ortiz and DAAAAAA Yankees lose! which became a viral sensation this year, expanding from just a Red Sox thing.

I’m thankful that Major League Baseball is in a great place, trending up from one of the best World Series of this century, complete with a normal offseason where the players and owners can freely negotiate contracts and trades. You hear me, MLB? I want to be thankful for the same thing 365 days from now. Be adults with the next Collective Bargaining Agreement.

We should all be grateful for Roman Anthony! A young stud with an astronomically high ceiling who’s locked up under team control for nearly a decade. Roman Anthony is here, he’s wonderful, and he’s ours!

I honestly don’t know where to begin, but here goes. I’m thankful:

That John Henry is in a buying mood this offseason

For improving health (and I wish the same for Triston Casas, and the other Sox players on the IL)

That Dunkin’ opened a location in Placerville, CA. They are now only 798 miles away from me, having closed the gap by 122 miles.

Forgive me if you’ve heard this spiel from me before, but I was 11 when the 2004 Red Sox broke the curse. Like most kids with short attention spans, I was captivated by the offense’s chances of scoring and adding runs to the total whenever they were up to bat, but Pedro Martinez’s starts were another thing entirely. I would eat, go to the bathroom, do homework, or whatever I needed to do during the batting half of every inning Pedro would play, waiting to see how he’d attack the strike zone and tease guys, especially Yankees, after sitting them down.

So, I’m thankful for the presence of another dominant, confident ace in the organization. A guy with years of promise down the road, who genuinely gives the team a chance to win whenever he’s on the mound. He’s certainly more stoic than Pedro, but his stuff is explosive. And the front office wasted no time on putting the pen to paper, so he’s all ours for several years to come!

I’m thankful that baseball exists and we get to watch it. And also for my health and family.
