Joe Ryan

The Minnesota Twins showed they view themselves as a rebuilding team after they went on to trade over 10 players at the 2025 MLB Trade Deadline. The one player that garnered interest that they held onto, though, was Joe Ryan.

With numerous teams needing pitching help, and the free agent market starting to dwindle after Dylan Cease signed with the Toronto Blue Jays, it opens up the chance for Joe Ryan to be a top trade candidate once again this offseason.

If the Twins do go through with trading Joe Ryan this time around, it will be the San Francisco Giants that trade for him.

Minnesota Twins Trade Joe Ryan to the San Francisco Giants

The San Francisco Giants should end up being aggressive this MLB offseason and free agency period, and the area they need to look to improve the most is their pitching depth. Robbie Ray and Logan Webb are fine starters, but they need another true ace to factor into the lineup if they want to be true competitors in the National League.

A trade for Joe Ryan would help the Giants accomplish this. Ryan is coming off his most productive season where he had a 3.42 ERA, with 194 strikeouts over 171 innings. Landing Ryan would solidify the Giants’ rotation and provide a much-needed boost, as Ryan would give San Francisco a controllable starter who has proven to be reliable.

Buster Posey has a plan in place to modernize San Francisco’s roster, and a trade for Joe Ryan this offseason is how they can start to achieve this. For the Twins, trading Ryan would end up giving them a good return with young prospects to continue to reshape the team for the future.
