The Toronto Blue Jays have already made a splash this offseason.

They stated their intent loud and clear by signing Dylan Cease to a seven-year, $210 million free agent contract.

But after making it to extra innings in Game 7 of the World Series before losing, the Blue Jays may have more work to do.

They certainly don’t want to experience that type of loss again.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand has circled one trade candidate on their roster who could be moved this offseason to add even more pitching: Joey Loperfido.

“Loperfido spent most of 2025 stuck behind an outfield logjam in Toronto, appearing in only 41 games,” Feinsand writes. “He produced when given the opportunity – Loperfido hit four homers with 14 RBIs and an .879 OPS in 104 plate appearances – and with five years of club control remaining, the 26-year-old could be part of a deal to land some pitching in Toronto.”

The Blue Jays will return their whole array of outfielders in 2026, from George Springer and Daulton Varsho to Nathan Lukes and Anthony Santander and Addison Barger.

Loperfido does, at the moment, appear like surplus.

The key would be finding a team that views Loperfido as legitimate present value and not just a depth piece elsewhere, too.

The only way he returns real intrigue in a trade is if the acquiring team thinks Loperfido can win a starting job for them.

That’s certainly a possible viewpoint, and maybe the Blue Jays can turn that into even more pitching depth.
