Edward Cabrera

The Miami Marlins are entering the 2026 MLB offseason with trade rumors circulating once again about the trade potential of their two pitchers in Edward Cabrera and Sandy Alcantara. With these trade rumors, it has led to a recent report coming out stating, “Between Sandy Alcantara and Edward Cabrera, Cabrera appears the more likely trade candidate this offseason—but Miami will only consider a deal that nets an overwhelming return. The organization expects Alcantara to be on the mound for Opening Day 2026.”

While Alcantara seems to be staying put, there will be immense trade interest once again for Edward Cabrera as well. For the Marlins, they need to rebuild, and trading players this offseason is how they accomplish this.

If the Marlins make Edward Cabrera available, the team that makes sense to trade for him is the Chicago Cubs.

Miami Marlins Trade Edward Cabrera to the Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs had interest in trading for Edward Cabrera at the MLB Trade deadline, but ultimately, nothing ever went through. With Cabrera now in trade rumors once again, trading for him now becomes a true possibility.

The Cubs need more pitching help for the 2026 season. While they were able to bring back Shota Imanaga on a one-year, $22 million qualifying offer deal, they still need more pitching talent overall. Especially after their lack of pitching depth led to their elimination in the playoffs.

For the Cubs, thy have vowed to improve their pitching, and how they can do so is through a trade with the Marlins for Edward Cabrera. With Cabrera coming off a season in which he had a 3.53 ERA with 150 strikeouts, he has shown improvement throughout each season of his career. With Cabrera being just 27 years old, he would give the Cubs a long-term pitcher they can build around for the future.
