The San Francisco Giants are quickly trying to establish themselves as contenders along with the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, New York Mets, San Diego Padres, and Toronto Blue Jays to be a part of the big spending group.

San Francisco, not known for being big spenders in the offseason, has been looking to change that since Buster Posey took over as President of Baseball Operations and made a name for himself in his new role with the moves he has already made.

The Giants need to add talent at almost every position just to compete in their own division. The bats in the National League West are perhaps the best in baseball.

If you can’t out-hit them, you might as well stockpile pitching and try to slow them down. That is why the San Francisco Giants will sign Chris Bassitt to their starting rotation.

Chris Bassitt To Sign With Giants

Chris Bassitt is entering his 12th season in the majors and could be pitching for his fifth team next season.

Making his debut with the Chicago White Sox in 2014, he was traded to the Oakland Athletics before the start of the 2015 season and made a name for himself with the A’s. Bassitt was then traded again in 2022 to the New York Mets and has spent the last three seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Bassitt has been one of the most consistent starting pitchers in baseball, eclipsing at least 27 starts in the last five seasons and more than 30 in the last four seasons.

He is an inning-eater and a reliable one with a career 3.64 ERA. A one-time All-Star and three-time Cy Young award finalist, Bassitt has the experience to elevate any MLB team. Especially now with World Series experience from this past season with the Blue Jays.

The San Francisco Giants have to do something to slow down the National League West. Having to compete with the Dodgers, Padres, and the Diamondbacks. The Giants need to add at least two starting pitchers this offseason.

They only really had four to rely on last season, and Justin Verlander is a free agent who is unlikely to return. Adding another 30-start pitcher to a rotation with Logan Webb and Robbie Ray would give the Giants a big advantage against these top offenses.

Potential Chris Bassitt Contract

Chris Bassitt will turn 37 before the 2026 MLB season begins, but he is pitching as well as anyone out there. He has not shown any decline in his production, which could lead him to more than a one-year deal.

A dependable pitcher who has World Series experience and can eat innings is more valuable than one can imagine.

Spotrac.com has Bassitt’s market value at two years worth just over $31 million. Putting him at an annual average salary of $15.6 million. The Blue Jays are likely to want to retain Bassitt, but another team that is more desperate to make a push could join the conversation and overpay for him.

Expect a two-year deal to be signed, but more north of $33 million. Pitching valuation is rising like the housing market in 2021, and Bassitt will earn a nice payday before he turns 40.

The Giants have to add quality talent. Each signing that Buster Posey makes will be scrutinized until he gets the Giants a playoff series win, and if he does not get one of those soon, he may get himself run out of the Bay Area.

The first smart move he can make is to get a reliable pitcher to add to his small yet strong starting rotation. That move would be signing Chris Bassitt sooner rather than later.
