PhilliesWith Alex Bregman not yet making a decision as to where he’ll play in 2026, we’ll be discussing a potential landing spot that makes a lot more sense than you might think.

If the Philadelphia Phillies want to win the World Series next season, adding Bregman could be the best way to position themselves to do so.

There are two obvious questions that would come with this move: Will the Phillies bring back Kyle Schwarber, and will they keep Alec Bohm on the roster if this move were to happen?

It’s fair to say that adding Bregman would be a lot more likely if the Phillies aren’t able to bring back Schwarber. However, here’s why the Phillies should look to sign Bregman and trade Bohm regardless of what happens with Schwarber.

This is a PREDICTION, not a REPORT.

Alex Bregman Wil Join Philadelphia Phillies in MLB Free Agency

Even with Bregman having a lower WAR than in the past few years, he still had a fantastic 2025 season through 114 games. Last year, Bregman had 3.5 WAR, 18 home runs, a .273 batting average, and a .360 OBP.

When you look at Baseball Savant, the advanced metrics also show that Bregman had a great year. Bregman had a Batting Run Value of 17 (79th percentile), a Baserunning Run Value of -2 (15th percentile), and a Fielding Run Value of 3 (72nd percentile).

Outside of baserunning, which doesn’t matter quite as much, Bregman looked fantastic last year, and he’s going to land a huge deal.

How Alex Bregman Fits with the Philadelphia Phillies

If the Phillies can’t retain Schwarber, Bregman would be the offensive firepower to replace him. But why shouldn’t the Phillies look to make a massive splash and pair these two together?

Coming off a 96-win season that resulted in another early postseason exit, it’s clearly not enough to just bring back Schwarber. Not only do the Phillies need to maintain the core of their roster, but they have to improve it.

If the Phillies want to make that jump to winning the World Series next year, Bregman is the player who can make that happen.

By signing Bregman, the Phillies would need to trade Bohm. Although Bohm didn’t have an elite 2025 season, he’s still going to have plenty of trade value.

Bohm had 1.5 WAR, 11 home runs, a .287 batting average, and .331 OBP in 120 games. Also, keep in mind that in 2024, Bohm was an All-Star.

If the Phillies can trade Bohm to fill needs elsewhere or add some youth to the farm system, then also get a massive upgrade at third base, that’s the kind of move that could take this team to the next level.

This scenario with Bregman is a bit more complex than with other potential landing spots. But if the Phillies were able to make this happen, it could be the move that gives them a World Series win in 2026.
