The Houston Astros have made it known they want to address their pitching needs this 2026 MLB offseason, but with a tight payroll, they will need to make some roster adjustments to be able to achieve this. The most obvious solution for them to achieve this is by making trades.
As of recently, it has been rumored that the Houston Astros could look to trade Jake Meyers to achieve this.

If this ends up being the case, the team that makes sense to reach out to the Astros to trade for Jake Meyers is the Kansas City Royals.

The Kansas City Royals have needed outfield help for years, and it seems like the Royals are going to be aggressive with changing that this offseason. Recently, the Royals president of baseball operations, J.J. Picollo, said in a recent interview with Alex Speier of The Boston Globe, “A lot of teams are looking for starting pitching, so if we have what they may be interested in, and they have an outfielder that would be of interest, then there’s potentially the opportunity to make a deal.”
The Astros need pitching, and they have an outfielder on the trade block now, making this a dream scenario for both sides in a cost-effective way.
Jake Meyers would provide the exact boost that Kansas City needs from their outfield. Last season, Meyers hit .292/.354/.373 with a career-best walk rate of 8.1%, and career-low strikeout rate of 17.6%. While he had just three home runs and 24 RBIs, he also missed time last season dealing with injuries.
With being out from July through September, Jake Meyers saw his production dip heavily upon his return as he had just a slash line of .204/.271/.204 before re-injuring his calf that ended his season early. This was quite a drop from the .308/.369/.405 slash line he had prior to his calf injury.
When Jake Meyers is fully healthy, he can be the exact outfielder the Royals need, as he is a player that makes contact consistently, and is a great defensive player. With being just five years into his career, he has more upside to be unlocked that the Royals can bank on unlocking upon trading for him.
