BALTIMORE, Md. (WBFF) — It’s been more than seven months since 53-year-old Dawn White was found dead inside of a safe in the basement of her South Baltimore home. And yet, her family is still no closer to learning what happened to her.
However, Baltimore police now say a breakthrough could be just around the corner.
“I was just putting my ornaments on my tree, and I have one of my dad and my friends that have passed. Now, I have to add one for my sister,” White’s sister, Kimberly Bache, told FOX45 News.

It’s the first Christmas Bache will spend without White, who she last saw back in April. That’s when Bache’s Ring doorbell camera captured White on the front porch pleading for help. She appeared to be ending things with her live-in boyfriend. Around the same time, Baltimore police confirmed two recent domestic-violence reports at their home.
“When I say I’m done,” White said into the ring camera. “Look at me, I’m done.”

Days later, officers discovered White’s body stashed in the safe. Investigators ruled it a suspicious death, not a homicide, pending autopsy and toxicology results. The state medical examiner initially told FOX45 News, cases typically take around 60 to 90 days to complete. But with the seasons now shifting from spring to winter, White’s family is still waiting for answers.
“How can you still call it suspicious? The girl was found in a safe, there’s nothing suspicious about that. It’s a homicide,” Bache said. “We’re suffering and I feel like nobody cares. Just tell us what happened to her.”
But behind the scenes, Baltimore police said the case has not been sitting idle. A Baltimore Police Department (BPD) spokesperson said investigators will meet with the medical examiner in the coming days and expect to release new details on White’s death by early next week.
The detectives are scheduled to convene with the Medical Examiner to review the findings of the autopsy. This case remains an open and active investigation. I anticipate having further information regarding this case by the beginning of next week.”
“We’re not asking for much. It’s not like, “hey, give us a million dollars.” Just tell us what happened to her. It’s that easy,” Bache said.
While nothing can bring White back, Bache said receiving the long-awaited autopsy results would at least bring this grieving family a sense of closure.
“Just give us a little bit of peace, a little bit of peace. That’s all we’re asking,” she said.
