Kyle Schwarber

The New York Mets need a complete roster change this 2026 MLB offseason, as they saw things not work out in their favor during the 2025 MLB season, enough so to where they missed the MLB Playoffs entirely.

Outside of Juan Soto, it has been reported that no one is truly safe on the Mets’ roster, leading to their being numerous positional changes that could happen.

While defense has been the focal point so far for New York, they also need to be looking to add power to their lineup with Pete Alonso hitting 2026 MLB Free Agency and having the potential to sign elsewhere.

The way that the Mets can add more power to their lineup is by signing Kyle Schwarber in free agency.

New York Mets Sign Kyle Schwarber in 2026 MLB Free Agency

The New York Mets know Kyle Schwarber extremely well, as Schwarber has played for the Philadelphia Phillies the last four seasons, and during that stretch has been successful with posting a .226/.349/.507 slash line with 187 home runs and 434 RBIs. Schwarber is entering free agency at the right time, as he is coming off a 2025 season where he had a .240/.365/.563 slash line with 56 home runs and 136 RBIs.

Being able to sign someone who is impactful and has the experience that Kyle Schwarber does would end up going a long way for the Mets as having him in the lineup with Juan Soto would create a true power duo.

The downside with Kyle Schwarber is that he is only a designated hitter, limiting his overall value a bit with not having the fielding ability. Still, Schwarber’s power is something the Mets need, and being able to sign him away from their rivals makes this signing that much more ideal for them this offseason.
