Today’s roster moves: Here

Tuesday notes…

BLOWN LEADS: Last night’s game was just the third this season in which the Cubs led after seven innings and lost. The first was at Arizona, on March 30, and the second was on April 6, at San Diego. The Cubs had played 35 games after the second before last night. They have been tied after seven innings and lost four games. They have trailed after seven innings and won two games. STREAKING: Dansby Swanson’s two hits Monday extended his on-base streak to 19 games, which matches his career high set in 2021. In that streak he is batting .388/.455/.687 (26-for-67) with two doubles, six home runs, 11 RBI, nine walks and 19 runs scored.

STEALING: The Cubs’ two stolen bases Monday gave them 61 for the season, tied with the Rays for the second-most in MLB (Brewers lead with 62). The Cubs’ stolen base percentage of 85.9 is second in MLB (Mets, 87.5 percent.)

THIS DAY IN CUBS HISTORY: On May 20, 1967, 58 years ago today, Adolfo Phillips doubled, homered and had six RBI in a 20-3 win over the Dodgers at Wrigley Field.

Here we have a pitching rematch from last Wednesday at Wrigley Field.

Jameson Taillon allowed three home runs — all solo shots — but besides that only one other hit, and struck out seven. I worry about all the home runs — Taillon has now allowed seven home runs in his last 10 innings pitched, so hopefully he can keep the ball in the yard tonight. Taillon has served up at least one home run ball in seven of his nine starts this year. A homerless start would be good.

Ryan Weathers threw five innings and allowed the Cubs just two hits and one run, the only run also a solo homer, hit by Seiya Suzuki.

Here’s hoping the Cubs took good notes on Weathers and can hit him better tonight.

Today’s game is on Marquee Sports Network. You can find out if Marquee is available via a provider in your area here.
