Matthew Boyd will suit up for Team USA at next spring’s World Baseball Classic.
The 34-year-old Chicago Cubs lefty made the announcement on Wednesday’s edition of Foul Territory.
“Any time you get the chance to represent our country, it’s something that’s really special,” Boyd said. “I’m grateful for this game. It’s given me so many opportunities. I get to play a game for a living.”
A native of Mercer Island, WA, Boyd was an All-Star for the first time in his 11-year career in 2025. He went 14-8 in 31 starts with an earned run average of 3.21 and a 1.091 WHIP over 179.2 innings pitched.
A sixth-round pick in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft out of Oregon State, Boyd previously suited up for the Toronto Blue Jays, Detroit Tigers, Seattle Mariners and Cleveland Guardians.
For his career, Boyd is 60-77 with a 4.57 ERA and 1.277 WHIP over 1,088.0 IP in 213 appearances.
The 2026 World Baseball Classic gets underway on Mar. 5. Japan is the defending champion.
