For the first time, Rockets fans now have a direct-to-consumer (DTC) option to subscribe to Space City Home Network game broadcasts.
For the first time, the NBA’s Houston Rockets and Major League Baseball’s Houston Astros are introducing direct-to-consumer (DTC) streaming for Space City Home Network (SCHN), their jointly owned regional sports network.
Until now, SCHN had solely been available through larger cable and satellite providers such as DirecTV, Comcast/Xfinity, FuboTV, and others.
Known as SCHN+, the new DTC and TV Everywhere (TVE) streaming app will allow viewers to watch the Rockets and Astros directly from their devices and without a contract or cable/satellite subscription, according to the teams.
“We’re thrilled to offer another great option to ensure fans have access to watch games, and the SCHN+ streaming app makes it easier than ever to cheer on the Rockets,” said Patrick Fertitta, alternate governor of the Rockets.
“Providing fans with a convenient way to watch their favorite teams, along with our network’s award-winning programming, was an essential addition,” Fertitta added. “This season feels special, and we’re committed to exploring new ways to elevate our broadcasts for Rockets fans to enjoy.”
SCHN+ is available now on web browsers at SCHNPLUS.com as well as on iOS, Android, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV, with more platforms coming soon. According to an announcement from the teams, the app will deliver all SCHN programming, including live coverage of both teams; behind-the-scenes features; and on-demand content.
“We’re excited to make Space City Home Network even more accessible to fans with the launch of SCHN+,” said Jim Colasanto, general manager of SCHN. “Our goal has always been to deliver the highest-quality viewing experience and give the best access for Astros and Rockets fans. The launch of our direct-to-consumer app marks a major step forward in how fans can connect with their favorite teams.”
The SCHN+ price is $19.99 per month or $199.99 per year (plus tax). Fans who already have access to SCHN through a participating cable, satellite, or streaming provider will be able to authenticate into the new app to access the content at no additional cost.
SCHN+ is available to in-market customers in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and the following counties in New Mexico: Dona Ana, Eddy, Lea, Chaves, Roosevelt, Curry, Quay, Union and Debaca. Answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) are available in a FAQs page on the SCHN+ website.
“The Astros are always committed to delivering a best-in-class fan experience, and we are excited that the SCHN+ app will now provide Astros fans another way to watch baseball from their favorite team,” said Jim Crane, owner and chairman of MLB’s Astros. “Providing fans options on how they view our games is important as we continue to grow the game, and we want to make it accessible to as large an audience as possible. We are looking forward to the 2026 season and having more Astros fans watching our players compete for another championship.”
While SCHN+ is available now for in-market fans, out-of-market customers will continue to have NBA League Pass and MLB.TV as options to live stream Houston games. Both paths allow fans to bypass traditional cable or satellite bundles.
