The Detroit Tigers seem poised to spend money on pitching this offseason. Despite the lack of offense last postseason, the Tigers are more interested in improving their pitching staff, as the rotation and bullpen need upgrades. In fact, Detroit has been linked to several great options, and the latest would make its rotation even more elite.
According to The Athletic’s Jim Bowden, the Tigers are among a handful of teams interested in signing Ranger Suarez from free agency. Suarez has spent his MLB career with the Philadelphia Phillies, and he is coming off one of his best seasons yet.
The 30-year-old pitcher had a 3.20 ERA in 2025 and made the NL All-Star team in 2024. Suarez, if signed by Detroit, would give the organization a potent 1-2 punch of left-handed starters. Tarik Skubal headlines an already strong rotation and is looking for his third straight Cy Young Award.
There are some health concerns with Suarez, who has a history of back problems. However, there are more positives than negatives with a player of Suarez’s caliber, and the Tigers would be wise to go all-in on acquiring his services this winter.
