The Seattle Mariners come into the offseason looking to make an upgrade or two in their bullpen. Ideally, they would like to pair another lefty with Gabe Speier, who is coming off a season-high in appearances in 2025.Â
They could target someone like Hoby Milner, who is sitting on the open market after spending the 2025 season with the Texas Rangers. He could be a great addition, especially with his funky arm slot coming from the left side.Â
There are quite a few other left-handed relievers on the open market Seattle could turn to. Or, they could see if any teams are interested in trading away some high-leverage arms.Â
Mariners could turn to the Nationals for a potential bullpen upgrade
The Washington Nationals are not a team that is afraid to make some moves. This past season, they traded their closer, Kyle Finnegan, to the Detroit Tigers, leaving Jose Ferrer as Washington’s ninth-inning man.Â
The Seattle Times’ Adam Jude believes the Mariners should target Ferrer. However, it likely will cost them as the Nats are high on Ferrer’s abilities.Â
“The Nationals, no doubt, would command a hefty asking price in return, but the 25-year-old Ferrer is one of the more promising up-and-coming bullpen arms in baseball. From the left side, Ferrer has a big fastball (a 97.7 mph sinker), a changeup, a slider, and an elite groundball rate (64.3%).”
Jude explains that Ferrer is one of the most exciting up-and-coming high-profile arms in the game. He throws hard, but his groundball rate is what sets him apart.Â
It is tough for opposing hitters to get under the ball when he is throwing his high-velocity sinkers, and that would certainly play well in the pitcher-friendly field that is T-Mobile Park.
