With Brandon Nimmo trying to get used to being in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex these days, the former New York Mets player needed a new uniform jersey.

After all, Texas Rangers fans couldn’t tell Nimmo without a scorecard right now.

But the Rangers fixed that problem on Thursday.

Nimmo stopped by the Rangers’ clubhouse on Thursday, receiving his No. 24 jersey from Rangers manager Skip Schumaker and president of baseball operations Chris Young. The Rangers put out a video on their social media accounts showing the interaction.

As we noted in an earlier story for Rangers Roundtable, Nimmo brings some nuances to the Rangers ballclub

“One intangible that Nimmo brings is some experience. While Texas has a strong nucleus of young players, Nimmo has put in his time in the big leagues with the Mets,” our earlier story said.

“Before coming to Texas, the only team that Nimmo has played for in his entire career is the Mets. Now, though, Nimmo comes over to a new team and a new league.”

Before coming to the Rangers, Nimmo had signed an eight-year, $162 million contract with the Mets in December 2022. He had a no-trade clause in there, but dropped it for the Rangers deal.

Semien, who is now a New York Met, signed a seven-year, $175 million contract with the Rangers in December 2021. He reportedly did not have a no-trade clause in that contract, according to another earlier story from Rangers Roundtable.

In the video shared by the Rangers, it sure looks like Nimmo, Schumaker, and Young were quite happy in the clubhouse.

But Young has to turn his focus toward the Winter Meetings, which start on Sunday in Orlando, Fla. Young will look to see what new deals he might be able to put together. Yet after the Nimmo deal, would Texas have the financial wherewithal to make another deal?

That is something Rangers fans will have to watch closely. It would be a real solid “get” for Texas to either make a trade with another team for a catcher or, potentially, look at what’s available on the free agent market.

One name that has been bandied about is J.T. Realmuto, but it’s going to probably be a wait-and-see situation regarding him and any connection with the Rangers.

So, Young has a lot of work to do. Schumaker also has some work to do as well, getting players like Nimmo clear on what is expected out of him in the 2026 MLB season.

If Nimmo can provide a sense of leadership both on and off the field, then the trade might be one of the best Young has pulled off in his time with Texas.
