The Seattle Mariners would like to re-sign Jorge Polanco, but if they can’t, it adds a massive need for them to address in their infield. The Mariners actually have no true solution at either second base or third base, making Brendan Donovan the ideal trade target once again this offseason.
With Brendan Donovan, he will be just 29 years old in January, and entering just his fifth season in MLB. He has put together a career slash line of .282/.361/.411 with 40 home runs and 202 RBIs. Donovan has been consistent, and is coming off a 2025 season in which he had a .287/.353/.422 slash line with 10 home runs and 50 RBIs.
The impressive thing with Brendan Donovan is that he is a true well-rounded player. In addition to his offensive skills, Donovan’s a great defender who can handle just about any position. He’s played primarily second base and left field but has also logged time at shortstop, third base, first base, and in right field.
With Brendan Donovan’s high-contact style, he would fit the Mariners’ lineup extremely well. With being under contract through 2027, he gives Seattle a versatile, and affordable player they must trade for this offseason to improve their lineup for the future.
