Brianna Aguilera’s family lawyers call on Governor Abbott and Texas Rangers to investigate her death

  • December 6, 2025

HOUSTON, Texas (KBTX) – Friday afternoon in Downtown Houston, Brianna Aguilera’s parents, along with their lawyers from the Buzbee Law Firm and Gamez Law Firm, hosted a press conference.

This comes after the Austin Police Department held its own press conference on Thursday morning, where they said their investigation had found Brianna had committed suicide. However, Brianna’s family and their lawyers are skeptical of that conclusion.

“There are serious and disturbing questions raised with regard to the Austin Police Department’s handling of the investigation surrounding the death of Brianna Aguilera,” exclaimed Tony Buzbee of the Buzbee Law Firm representing Brianna’s parents.

Buzbee claims Austin PD didn’t do a thorough investigation, failing to interview witnesses who he said have key information.

“Now, why wouldn’t they talk to him? He had incredibly specific information about what he heard. He could hear it loud enough. He could hear the words that were spoken, ‘get off of me’ and screaming,” Buzbee explained.

Stephanie Rodriguez, Brianna’s mother, took the podium to emphasize that her daughter was not suicidal.

“She dreamt of a life of where she could make a difference. My daughter was not suicidal. I know my daughter better than anyone. We spoke every day,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez, visibly emotional as she went on to remember the bright future she saw for her daughter.

“She dreamt of attending law school in New York and wanted to become a criminal defense lawyer,” remembered Rodriguez.

Attorney Buzzbee insisted that the Austin PD mishandled this investigation and reached a conclusion before they even started investigating.

“It’s clear to me based on what this detective said to Stephanie, it’s clear to me that he had made a decision immediately about what his conclusion was and then went about trying to support it,” Buzbee noted.

He then called on Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Rangers to take over Brianna’s case.

“I will be calling on the governor to engage the Texas Rangers. We will submit a formal packet to them with all the evidence we have gathered so far, and we will gather,” Buzbee explained.

He said they intend to submit between 30 and 40 pages of information, including statements and data for the Governor and Texas Rangers to review, as Brianna’s family pleads to know what happened in the final moments of their daughter’s life.

“I cannot deal with you jumping to conclusions and not performing an actual investigation. I cannot deal with your failure to do your job. Do your job,” Rodriguez pleaded.
