Red Sox utility man Kristian Campbell made his Puerto Rican Winter League debut on Saturday, going 1 for 3 with a walk as the Caguas Criollos defeated the San Juan Senadores, 4-1.

Serving as the designated hitter and batting second, Campbell flew to center in the first, walked on four pitches in the third, lined to right in the fifth, and singled to center in the seventh.

After his walk, he came around to score on a three-run homer by Nelson Velázquez, who is currently a free agent after spending the first two months of last season with the Royals.

Campbell is playing with the Criollos who are are managed by Red Sox bench coach Ramón Vázquez. The team’s general manager is Jésus Feliciano, the brother of Red Sox manager Alex Cora’s fiancée, Angelica Feliciano.

Last season, Campbell was the American League Rookie of the Month in April after slashing .301/.407/.495 with four home runs and 12 RBIs in 123 plate appearances. But he was demoted to Worcester on June 19 after a 20-for-140 (.143) slump that included just four extra-base hits and 40 strikeouts.

In 73 games with the WooSox, he slashed .273/.382/.417 with eight home runs and 38 RBIs while playing first base, second base, and all three outfield positions.

The Red Sox signed Campbell to an eight-year, $60 million contract on April 2.
