While Major League Baseball’s Winter Meetings don’t officially kickstart until tomorrow, the results of the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee vote will be announced tonight at 7:30 p.m. Eastern.
Barry Bonds is one of eight players up for National Baseball Hall of Fame consideration, joining Roger Clemens, Carlos Delgado, Jeff Kent, Don Mattingly, Dale Murphy, Gary Sheffield and Fernando Valenzuela on the ballot, which focuses on players whose primary contributions to the game came in the years since 1980.
Bonds, who spent seven years with the Pirates during his 22-year career, failed to be elected into the Hall of Fame during his 10 years on the Baseball Writers’ Association of America ballot. In order for him to earn an induction on this particular ballot, he must receive votes on 75% of the ballots.
Players chosen on this ballot will join players voted in by the BBWAA in being inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 26.
