When the 2025 baseball season began Steele Hall was a 17-year-old at Hewitt-Trussville High School in Alabama. Initially a draft-eligible player in 2026, he reclassified and graduated early so he could be eligible for 2025. After a strong year he stood out among his peers and grabbed the attention of the Cincinnati Reds who selected him 9th overall in July’s draft.

There was no 2025 season for Steele Hall as a professional. By the time he had signed the Arizona Complex League was a week from ending and as a 17-year-old the team wasn’t going to push him up to Daytona to start his career there after not having played since May when he was in high school. He did get some time on the field in the “bridge league”, an informal league in Arizona where some of the teams participate and play games against other organization’s players who are still at the complex before they begin instructional league.

With Steele Hall you’ve got the potential for a 5-tool player. His speed sticks out as his best tool and it’s at the top of the charts. At the plate he’s got a chance to hit for both average and for at least solid power. The hit tool is the bigger question mark here as he’s had some struggles at times when facing quality secondary offerings. Some of that could simply be that he is still so young and has just seen a little less of it while on the field because of that. Still, it’s the area to keep an eye on in his development. The power potential doesn’t jump out but there’s a chance he’s got average to slightly above-average big league power in the future.
A guy who has a shot to steal a ton of bases, hit for average, and hit for power would be a good profile just about anywhere on the field. But Hall can play shortstop and that profile really works at the position. With good hands, athleticism, and a strong arm he has all of the pieces to make for a quality defensive shortstop.
In 2026 Steele Hall will make his pro debut and he will spend most of the season as an 18-year-old. It’s likely that he begins the year in the Arizona Complex League given his age, inexperience, and the depth chart ahead of him.
