The Toronto Blue Jays could move on from Bo Bichette.

The Toronto Blue Jays continue to be linked to splashy moves this offseason in ongoing MLB rumors. Toronto nearly won the World Series, and the club is looking to bolster their roster in order to make another run in 2026.

The Blue Jays have their eyes on Chicago Cubs star Kyle Tucker in MLB free agency, per USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.

“The defending American League champions have dominated the winter by locking down three starters with Cease, Shane Bieber (player option) and Cody Ponce, and are hungry for more with outfielder Kyle Tucker and closer Robert Suarez on their radar – giving them perhaps the highest payroll in the league,” Nightengale wrote in a December 7, 2025, story titled, “Welcome to MLB’s winter meetings: Free agent and trade rumors fly in Orlando.”

“… The Blue Jays have made it no secret that they want Tucker, but found it comical that so much was made about Tucker’s visit to their spring facility in Dunedin considering it’s less than a 30-minute drive from Tucker’s home in Tampa.”

The Blue Jays Are Considering Signing Cubs Slugger Kyle Tucker Over Bo Bichette: Insider

Tucker played on a one-year, $16.5 million contract in 2025 but is likely headed for a sizable payday. Spotrac projects Tucker’s market value is a 10-year, $401 million contract. If the Blue Jays are able to land Tucker, it could mean the end of Bo Bichette’s tenure in Toronto.

“Tucker, who doesn’t have to be the primary star with Vladimir Guerrero entrenched as the face of the Blue Jays, could be the perfect fit,” Nightengale added. “George Springer’s contract expires in a year and starter Kevin Gausman’s salary also comes off the books. If Tucker signs in Toronto, it would all but officially end Bo Bichette’s tenure north of the border, where he could wind up in Boston.”

Blue Jays Rumors: The Red Sox Have Been Linked to Bo Bichette as a Potential Replacement for Alex Bregman

Tucker hit .266 with 133 hits, 73 RBI and 22 home runs in 136 appearances for the Cubs in 2025. As for Bichette, the shortstop has plenty of suitors in MLB free agency. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon reported that the Boston Red Sox are considering Bichette as a potential replacement for Alex Bregman.

“Retaining free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman is a priority for the Boston Red Sox. But some with the club view Bo Bichette, previously a division rival with the Toronto Blue Jays, as an intriguing alternative,” Rosenthal and Sammon detailed in a December 5, story titled, “What we’re hearing: Marlins have pitching to deal; Bichette to Boston?”

“… Bichette has always hit well at Fenway Park, batting .329 with a .907 OPS in 157 plate appearances. The Red Sox could use him at second base, a position he played for the first time in the World Series. Before that, he was exclusively a shortstop for the Jays. While Bichette’s defensive metrics at shortstop are among the worst in the majors, some teams still see him as viable at that position, according to people briefed on his market.”

The Blue Jays’ ability to land Tucker could have a domino effect around MLB, but Toronto will need to pay a premium in order to make this happen.
