The New York Mets need to add some pitching to their roster this offseason. They have a lot of talent, but they missed out on the postseason this year because of their troublesome pitching staff.
The Mets seemingly have a lot of money to spend this offseason, as they do every offseason. There are some big-name players on the market right now, and the Mets could look to sign two or three of the top pitchers to get back to the postseason next year.
Bleacher Report’s Adam Wells recently predicted the Mets would sign San Diego Padres pitcher Michael King to a three-year, $75 million deal in free agency this winter.

“MLB Trade Rumors predicted a four-year, $80 million deal for King when free agency opened. If he is open to a short-term contract, something like Bregman’s three-year, $120 million deal with the Boston Red Sox last year that included opt-outs after each of the first two seasons could be a structure that King is looking for,” Wells wrote. “Of the teams interested in King, the Mets make the most sense because their rotation is a mess right now, it was a huge factor in them missing the playoffs in 2025 and owner Steve Cohen isn’t going to be shy about spending money.”
The Padres have already lost Dylan Cease to the Toronto Blue Jays in free agency this winter. They could be bound to lose King, too.
The Mets have the money to make a deal for King while still having the space to add another star to their rotation.
If King can stay healthy, he’s a top-of-the-rotation pitcher. He’s been good for the last few seasons, and the Mets would greatly benefit from adding him to the roster.
