ORLANDO, Fla. — The Texas Rangers have rounded out first-year manager Skip Schumaker’s staff.
The Rangers promoted minor league hitting coordinator Eric Dorton to the major league staff, club officials said Monday afternoon, where he’ll serve as the team’s third hitting coach behind Justin Viele and Cintrón.
Dorton, 36, spent three years as the system’s full-season hitting coordinator and seven total in various organizational roles. He joined the Rangers in 2019 after collegiate stints at Lamar Community College, Cloud County Community College, Tarleton State and West Texas A&M.
He is the sixth newcomer on Schumaker’s staff but the eighth who’d previously worked for the Rangers in some prior capacity.
Rangers
The Rangers have posted the fourth-worst on base plus slugging percentage (.685) since the start of the 2024 season and have regressed offensively each year since their World Series run. They did not retain hitting coache Bret Boone — who was hired mid season after the club dismissed offensive coordinator Donnie Ecker — or assistant hitting coach Seth Conner from last year’s staff.
Viele was promoted to the lead hitting coach role after one season with the Rangers and Cintrón, who won a championship on staff with the Houston Astros, was hired last month.
