KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Kansas City Royals will draft in the top 10 of the MLB Draft again next summer.
Kansas City was given the sixth overall selection in the 2026 MLB Draft during Tuesday night’s MLB Draft Lottery. The sixth spot was the lowest spot in the draft determined by the lottery.
Entering Tuesday, the Royals had the 13th-best odds to win the lottery, a 0.8% chance. Kansas City exceeded its expected odds to slot in at the No. 6 spot.
The Royals’ AL Central foe, the Chicago White Sox, won the draft lottery and were awarded the first pick. Chicago had the highest chance to get that top pick with a 27.7% chance.
Another AL Central opponent, the Minnesota Twins, were given the third pick in 2026.
Last year, Kansas City selected 23rd overall in the draft and took outfielder Sean Gamble with their first pick. The year prior, Jac Caglianone was taken with the sixth overall selection in the 2024 MLB Draft.
Major League Baseball’s 2026 draft will take place July 12 in Philadelphia.
