*This is a prediction*
The Texas Rangers have one clear goal this offseason, and that is to start to restructure their payroll for the future and give themselves more breathing room. One player that has been speculated as a player the Rangers could move on from to start clearing this financial space is Corey Seager.
It seems like a long shot that the Rangers would move on from a star player like Corey Seager, given his impact on the team, but in reality, clearing his 10-year, $325 million contract off the books would easily help Texas clear things up from their financial standpoint.
It would have to take a major deal for the Rangers to fully consider moving on from Corey Seager, but if this ends up being the case, the Toronto Blue Jays make sense as the team to trade for him.

The Toronto Blue Jays were so close to winning the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers to end off the 2025 MLB season, but ultimately they couldn’t get things done.
The Blue Jays know they are close and are now in the clear-cut contender status ahead of the 2026 MLB season, but for them to be able to maintain this status, they are going to have to figure out what to do with their shortstop position. With Bo Bichette a free agent and there being the chance he doesn’t re-sign, they will need to find someone that can replicate his impact.
When Corey Seager was a free agent, the Blue Jays had interest in signing him, but ultimately weren’t able to accomplish signing him as they didn’t have the payroll or contender status to truly attract him. Now, though, they have the payroll and contender stats that can help in their ability to trade for Seager.
For Toronto, trading for Corey Seager, who is coming off a 2025 season in which he had a .271/.373/.487 slash line with 21 home runs and ranked seventh in WAR for shortstops, would give the Blue Jays the ideal win-now replacement they need to show they are committed to making it back to the World Series.
