This is one in a series breaking down players on the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 40-man roster.
Brandan Bidois was among the group of six prospects the Pirates added their 40-man roster in protection from the Rule 5 Draft. It didn’t come as a surprise to see his addition, in fact, it was more surprising that it didn’t happen earlier.
Bidois was named the 2025 Kent Tekulve Reliever of the Year in the Pirates’ organization. He pitched across four different levels on the season — one appearance with Low-A Bradenton, 16 with High-A Greensboro, 14 with Double-A Altoona and nine with Triple-A Indianapolis.
Things couldn’t have gone much better for the 24-year-old. Combined between the four levels, Bidois ended the year a perfect 8-0 with a 0.74 ERA and seven saves. In 61 innings, he didn’t allow a home run, yielded only 22 hits, walked 27 and struck out 69.
His most dominant stretch came between late July and early September, when he faced 64 batters in a row without allowing a hit.
Bidois’ minor-league career has been impressive. In 92 appearances across four seasons, he’s 11-5 with a 2.02 ERA and 17 saves. The right-hander has totaled 120.1 innings, has only allowed 64 hits — four of which have been home runs — and has struck out 161 batters.
Though he’ll likely begin the 2025 season with Indianapolis, Bidois should be one of the first relievers called up to Pittsburgh when a roster move is inevitably needed. When he does make his MLB debut, he’ll become the 24th pitcher from Australia to do so.
