The Boston Red Sox “seem to be pricing every available option” in both the free agent and trade market this winter, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported Tuesday.

Although bringing back Alex Bregman apparently remains the club’s top priority, Rosenthal wrote that the Red Sox have also looked into signing Pete Alonso or Bo Bichette as well as trading for Arizona Diamondbacks’ Ketel Marte or Houston Astros’ Isaac Paredes.

A potential trade for Paredes might cost Boston some pitching talent. According to Rosenthal, the Astros have interest in Red Sox left-handers Payton Tolle and Connelly Early.

That would be a steep cost for the Red Sox, considering that Tolle is currently ranked as MLB Pipeline‘s No. 28 prospect in all of baseball.

MassLive’s Sean McAdam and Chris Cotillo meanwhile recently reported the Diamondbacks are seeking “controllable starting pitching, preferably with some major league experience” in exchange for Marte.

Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow told reporters Monday his club had “pitching depth, based on some of the inbound calls that we’ve received over the last couple of weeks.”

“If there are opportunities to use some of that depth in order to address other areas of the roster, we’d be willing to do it,” Breslow said (h/t Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald).

Breslow’s comments come after the Red Sox added Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo to a rotation already featuring Garrett Crochet and Brayan Bello alongside Hunter Dobbins and Kyle Harrison.

It seems there’s a possibility one of those players could be moved in order for the Red Sox to bolster their infield.

Paredes spent most of the 2025 season playing at third base for the Astros, but Rosenthal wrote Tuesday he “presumably would play first base” should the Red Sox bring back Bregman to man the hot corner.

Alonso has meanwhile spent almost his entire New York Mets career at first base. Bichette mainly played at shortstop last season with the Toronto Blue Jays, but he made his second base debut during the World Series.

Whatever infield moves the Red Sox ultimately make this offseason could hinge on whether Bregman ultimately signs with another team.

Even Petzold of the Detroit Free Press recently wrote that the Detroit Tigers’ interest in Bregman is now “lukewarm,” while The Athletic’s Patrick Mooney and Sahadev Sharma reported the Chicago Cubs have “renewed interest” in the third baseman.
